AK 47 Review: Does Trivikram Deliver Something Different?

AK 47 Movie Review

Venkatesh and Trivikram coming together created huge expectations among movie lovers. The film also has Srinidhi Shetty, Nivetha Pethuraj in important roles, while S. Radha Krishna produces it under the Haarika & Hassine Creations banner. Thaman handles the music.
The film had good expectations from the beginning, and the team also promoted it well. However, repeated delays slowly reduced the excitement around the movie. There were also reports that the film had similarities to Blast and had gone through some reshoots. So, how does this crime family thriller turn out?

The Story

Chittibabu (Venkatesh) an employee lives a simple middle class life with his wife Swarna (Srinidhi Shetty), son Sarva and daughter. Their financial problems increase when Swarna loses four lakhs in a chit fund and they learn that their son needs two lakhs for an operation.

Just when the family is struggling to manage its expenses, a lottery ticket brings them a huge surprise. They win Rs. 100 crore and move from their small colony to a big gated community.

Meanwhile, a robbery gang from Bihar enters Telangana and targets the family’s new wealth. There gang joins the family as domestic workers as part of the gang’s plan to steal the money.

What happens when the gang puts its plan into action? Can Chittibabu and his family protect their money? What roles do SP (Nara Rohith) play in the story? To know the answers, you have to watch the film.

What Works

The film starts by showing Venkatesh as an ordinary middle-class family man. His family’s problems and their everyday arguments are presented in a simple way. The lottery angle may feel a little illogical at first, but the scenes that follow make the story interesting.

The pre-interval portions are engaging, and some of the twists help explain things that initially seem unrealistic. The idea of a robbery gang targeting a family and the family’s attempts to protect themselves create some interesting moments.

Venkatesh is one of the film’s biggest strengths. He fits the role of Chittibabu perfectly, and this kind of family-oriented character suits him well.

Satya’s comedy works well and provides some entertaining moments. Srinidhi Shetty also fits her role as Swarna and delivers a decent performance. The child actors are good, while the actor playing the villain makes an impression. Nara Rohith has limited scope in his role as an SP, but he does well with what he gets.

Thaman’s songs have not created much impact, and his background score is a big letdown. It fails to create the required tension or make the scenes more engaging. The cinematography and production values are good, though.

Trivikram tries a slightly different genre while retaining some of his familiar style. The twists work in several places, and the film manages to keep the audience interested for most of its runtime.

What Doesn’t

The biggest issue is that the film is not entirely fresh. At times, it feels like a mix of Blast and Kill, with a crime story built around a family. Some of the situations also feel illogical, especially the way the lottery and the robbery gang’s plan come together.

The first half is more engaging, while the second half does not maintain the same level of excitement. Although the film introduces some interesting moments later, the pace dips in a few places. Some twists are predictable, and a few scenes could have been handled better.

Nivetha Pethuraj has very little to do, and her role does not add much to the story. The film could also have benefited from a tighter second half to maintain the momentum until the end.

Final Take

AK 47 is an average crime family thriller with a mix of Blast and Kill. Venkatesh’s performance and Satya’s comedy work well, but the routine story and disappointing background score affect the overall experience. A decent one time watch.
