People in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are currently experiencing mixed weather conditions. While some districts are still struggling with extreme heat, many areas are also witnessing sudden rains, thunderstorms, and strong winds during the evenings.
In Telangana, districts such as Jagtial, Nirmal, Adilabad, Khammam, and Suryapet recently recorded temperatures above 44°C. Munagala in Suryapet district touched nearly 45.5°C, making it one of the hottest places in the state this season. Even Hyderabad crossed 42°C in some areas over the past few days.
At the same time, weather conditions are slowly changing. According to IMD forecasts (India Meteorological Department), thunderstorms and scattered rains are likely to continue across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh over the next few days. Districts such as Mulugu, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Rangareddy are expected to receive thunderstorms along with gusty winds and lightning. Temperatures may drop by around 2°C to 5°C due to these rains.
In Andhra Pradesh too, people are getting some relief from the heat because of pre-monsoon showers. The IMD stated that several districts in Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema may continue to receive rains and thunderstorms until around May 10 or 11. Strong winds and lightning are also expected in nearly 18 districts across the state.
However, weather officials are warning people not to ignore the heatwave completely. The IMD has already stated that parts of Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema may still experience above-normal heatwave days during May.
Farmers and Daily Workers Facing Problems
The sudden weather changes are creating difficulties for many people. Farmers in several districts are worried about crop damage due to heavy winds and unseasonal rains. Daily workers are also struggling because of the extreme afternoon heat. In cities like Hyderabad, Vijayawada, and Visakhapatnam, people are avoiding going outdoors during peak afternoon hours because of high temperatures and humidity.
School students are also facing difficulties as heatwave conditions continue during the daytime, while sudden evening rains are causing traffic disruptions and power issues in some areas.
Precautions People Should Take
Doctors and weather officials are advising people to remain cautious during both heatwaves and thunderstorms.
- Drink plenty of water regularly
- Avoid going outdoors between 12 PM and 4 PM
- Wear light cotton clothes
- Do not stand under trees during lightning
- Avoid unnecessary travel during heavy storms
- Elderly people and children should stay indoors during extreme heat conditions
For now, weather experts say that rains may continue for a few more days, and temperatures could slightly decrease in many districts. However, since the May heat is still active across Telugu states, people are advised to remain alert for both heatwaves and sudden thunderstorms.
