Story:
Do Patti opens on a tense note. An adventure in the mountains quickly turns dangerous when a paragliding mishap leaves Saumya (Kriti Sanon) accusing her husband, Dhruv (Shaheer Sheikh), of trying to kill her. Enter Inspector Vidya Jyoti (Kajol), who begins to unravel the mystery. Saumya claims Dhruv has nasty motives, but why would her husband, who had lovingly wooed her, want her dead? As Vidya Jyoti digs further, the plot thickens with the return of Saumya’s competitive twin sister, Shailee (also Kriti Sanon), and a mysterious woman from their past (Tanvi Azmi). There are a few hidden truths about their troubled childhood and Dhruv’s darker side that slowly starts coming to light.
Performance:
Kriti Sanon delivers a strong performance in the film as she takes on the double role of twin sisters. She manages to bring out the stark differences between timid Saumya and assertive Shailee through the film. She comfortably handles both characters and has infused depth in the strained relationship. Kajol, playing the serious cop Vidya Jyoti, adds important weight to the film with her emotional performance, balanced by her strong sense of duty to her job. Shaheer Sheikh, playing Dhruv, comes off rather effective, though his role as the charmingly supposedly dangerous husband lacks complexity. Tanvi Azmi adds much-needed weight to the narrative with her important supporting role, though her character feels somewhat underutilized.
Analysis:
The movie Do Patti is trying to dig deep into themes of sibling rivalry, domestic abuse, and psychological trauma but doesn’t pull through to the height of its potential. Suspense keeps you hooked at the beginning, but predictability and used notions detract from the drama as it unravels. Film pacing is uneven with some twists feeling forced instead of organic. Strong performances aside, this overall impact is not achieved with this lack of real surprises or fresh storytelling.
Verdict:
Though Do Patti has drama with suspense, it fails to utilize its interesting premise. Kriti Sanon and Kajol’s strong performances are like saviors for the movie, but the predictable plot and weak twists leave you wanting more from the story.
