Story
The story follows Daniel Kellner (Josh O’Connor), a cybersecurity expert and former employee of a secretive organization known as WARDEX. After discovering evidence of extraterrestrial contact that has allegedly been hidden from the public for decades, Daniel becomes convinced that the world deserves to know the truth.
However, his decision places him directly in the crosshairs of powerful forces determined to keep the secret buried.
At the same time, meteorologist Margaret Fairchild (Emily Blunt) begins developing strange abilities that seem connected to something beyond human understanding. As events unfold, her path crosses with Daniel’s, leading them into a dangerous race involving hidden conspiracies, powerful institutions, and humanity’s biggest unanswered questions.

Performance
Emily Blunt is undoubtedly the standout performer of the film. She delivers a convincing performance and handles both the emotional and dramatic moments with ease. Her character becomes the emotional core of the story, and she does a commendable job throughout.
Josh O’Connor is equally impressive as Daniel Kellner. He brings sincerity and conviction to the role, keeping viewers invested in the mystery.
Colin Firth performs well as Noah Scanlon. Rather than being a typical villain, his character genuinely believes he is protecting humanity, which adds an interesting depth to the conflict.
The rest of the cast perform their roles very well and provide solid support to the film.
Analysis
Disclosure Day starts strongly and quickly pulls viewers into its central mystery. The conspiracy surrounding alien life and government secrecy keeps the first half engaging. Steven Spielberg’s direction is once again one of the film’s biggest strengths. The visuals are impressive, the production values are excellent, and several scenes showcase his trademark filmmaking style.
However, despite these positives, the film never fully reaches its potential.
The biggest issue lies in the screenplay. While the mystery remains interesting initially, the narrative gradually loses momentum as it progresses. Several interesting ideas are introduced but are never explored deeply enough, leaving parts of the story feeling underdeveloped.
The film also spends a lot of time exploring themes such as truth, secrecy, misinformation, and humanity’s reaction to the unknown. While these themes are relevant and interesting, the emotional impact is weaker than expected, making it difficult to fully connect with the characters and their journey.
Another major problem is the ending. After building suspense and mystery for most of its runtime, the film concludes rather abruptly. Instead of delivering a satisfying payoff, it leaves viewers with the feeling that the story is incomplete.
As a result, Disclosure Day feels like a film packed with fascinating ideas but held back by uneven execution. It remains engaging in parts but never becomes the memorable sci-fi thriller it promises to be.
Verdict
Disclosure Day features has good concept and solid performances, particularly from Emily Blunt. While the mystery keeps you engaged for a while, the weak payoff and sudden ending make the overall experience feel incomplete.
Despite its ambitious themes and Spielberg’s stylish direction, Disclosure Day ultimately falls short of its enormous potential.
