Sanju Samson, the talented Kerala cricketer, has been in the spotlight for both his recent form and a controversy surrounding his career. His father, Samson Vishwanath gave a strong interview, blaming famous Indian cricketers like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and coach Rahul Dravid for slowing down his son’s career.
In an interview with a Malayalam outlet, Vishwanath alleged that these four individuals had “destroyed” ten crucial years of Sanju’s cricketing journey. Despite Sanju’s T20I debut in 2015, he has spent much of his career warming the bench, especially under the leadership of Dhoni, Kohli, and Rohit. Vishwanath’s anger increased even more after Sanju’s outstanding performances in 2024, where he scored back-to-back centuries in T20 matches against South Africa and Bangladesh.
Vishwanath also criticized former selector Kris Srikkanth, who had downplayed Sanju’s achievements. He said, “A century is a century,” comparing Sanju’s playing style to cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid.
Despite the frustration, Sanju’s father also praised two important people Gautam Gambhir and Suryakumar Yadav. He thanked them for helping to restart his son’s career. Gambhir’s choice to make Sanju an opener in T20Is proved to be a turning point. Since then, Sanju has made history by becoming the first Indian to score consecutive T20I centuries.
With the 2026 T20 World Cup in sight, Sanju Samson’s recent performances have brought hope that he will secure a regular spot in the national team. Despite facing many setbacks in the past, his current form shows he is ready to stay in the team, proving that hard work and the right timing can turn a tough career around.
